A big thank you to Donna Jones – Journalist from Gympie Today for publicising our success at the Australian National Championships in Rockhampton earlier this month.

Top performer for the tournament was Delara Mostofizadeh from IKD, who scored two silver medals in the cadets (14/15 years) age group.
The first was for being the runner-up in the final of the Kumite (sparring) and the second was as a member of the four person Queensland team.
Older brother Dustin Mostofizadeh, also from the IKD dojo, scored a Bronze in the U21 male Kumite competition for his weight category.
Other IKD students to impress at the Nationals were Jethero Sprecher who made it to the finals but narrowly missed the bronze in his age/weight group, and James Stone, a Junior (12-13 years) who competed in both Kata and Kumite in his first National tournament and made it to the quarter finals.

Sensei and Chief Instructor of the IKD dojo Hamid Mostofizadeh is proud of all of his students who were just some of the 586 competitors who travelled from all the corners of Australia to compete.
He was also impressed by the show of support for the AKF tournament shown by the local Council.
“It was amazing to see the opening ceremony with the full support of the Rockhampton Council and there was lots of publicity for the AKF, with banners in the streets – right from the airport – and TV and radio advertising and more,” Mostofizadeh said.
He said an event of this National magnitude was obviously a boost to the local economy.
Also taking part at Rockhampton, but not as a competitor, was Mostofizadeh’s eldest son David, who recently qualified as an Australian referee.
The 22 year-old is working on becoming a referee for the Oceania region and then qualifying as a World Referee where he could get to adjudicate Olympic level and World Championships in the future.
