Sep 2, 2023 | featured, News

The National Championships were held in Perth from the 25th – 27th of August 2023.
IKD-Australia is very proud to have had such a strong group of 8 athletes, 2 referees and sensei Hamid as a state coach who represented not only our state team but also our IKD club and the Cooloola region at the AKF National Championships 2023. Our members produced astonishing results from the start to finish of the annual competition, an event which marks the end of the Karate season and following on from the amazing results produced by our members at the QLD Cup, QLD State Championships and the QLD Open earlier this year.
Our eight IKD-Australia members: Sean, Terry, Zac, Dustin, Delara, Diba, Damine and Dana travelled to Perth after gaining selection for the Queensland Karate State Team.
David and Daria also travelled to Perth as Queensland referees over the three day competition and successfully upgraded their referee qualifications and passed their examinations.

Here are the amazing results from our members:

– Congratulations to Diba who brought home the gold in her Cadet Kumite event, becoming national champion for the first time. She went on to be 1 of 4 QLD female athletes selected for the cadet team kumite event and won a further bronze with her teammates.
– Delara had some hard fights in her kumite division and after being 1 of 4 QLD female athletes selected for the junior female kumite team, claimed the silver medal with her teammates, who narrowly missed out on the nationals gold medal.
– Dana, Zac and Damine teamed up for the Children’s Team Kata Event and won the silver medal together in their division, a great result considering it was their first time competing together for team kata at a national level.
– Dustin fought through numerous rounds in his Kata Division, and managed to clinch the bronze medal at the national championships. He also competed in his Kumite division and made it to the final, claiming the silver medal.
– Terry and Sean made a fantastic effort for their first nationals, with both just missing out on the bronze medal during their 3rd place play off.

As the only club in the region who had members selected for the state team, we are proud to have represented the community and the state.
