Sensei Dan Higgins

Here is an account of Sensei Dan Higgins experience in Karate:     Dan.jpg
– He started Karate under the JKA in 1984 when he was 9 yrs old.         
– He attained the rank of Shodan in 1986 under  Takahashi Sensei.               
– In 1991 he attained the rank of Nidan under SKI organisation.             
– In 1993 he moved to Japan to train and he was lucky enough to be invited to train at Teikyo Uni by the famous Kagawa Sensei.                   
  He trained full time at the Uni for 14 months. During this time he attained the rank of Nidan in the JKA (now known as JKS).
– During his time in Japan he was lucky enough to meet Kanaya Senseiat theHonbu Dojo in which time he invited Sempai Dan Higgins to train with him on the Sunshine cost when he returned to Australia. 
– Upon his return to Australia he joined the Army and was posted all around the country and Asia. At this time he began his study of Judo and Jiu Jtsu. 
When he finally moved back to Brisbane he searched for Kanaya Sensei and resumed training with him. 
Over the years he has been seeking Sensei’s instructions in all karate matters whilst teaching in his own martial arts dojo in Brisbane. 
Sempai Dan Higgins has an extensive competition background in Karate and other martial arts over a period of 25 years.

              Sempai David Mostofizadeh
David started Karate in 2005 when he was 5 yrs old.David.jpg
He trains for four years under Sensei Andrew and his father Sensei Hamid.
He was lucky enough to meet Kanaya Sensei and he trained for 2 years under late Shihan Sensei Kanaya. 
David obtained the rank of Shodan in April 2010 under Sensei Yamaguchi & late Shihan Sensei Kanaya.
David has competed in majority of local and state championships from 2005 – 2011, and also in national and international championships. He competed in the Sydney internationals in 2012, Australian Open in 2011and 2012 and in the QKA State Championships 2012.
David won one gold medal for first in team kata and one bronze medal for third in kata in 2012 at the Sunshine Coast Karate Championships 2012.

David attained the rank of Nidan in June 2012 under Shihan Yamaguchi Sensei.

David has competed in:
– February 2013 Qld Sunshine Coast Karate Championships in Peregian Springs and won silver medal (2nd place) in Kata & gold medal (1st place) in Team Kata.
– March 2013 QKA Summer Invitational Tournament won silver medal (2nd place) in Team Kata with Dustin, & Daria. 
– 19th-21st April 2013 Australian Open Karate Championships won silver medal (2nd place) in Team Kata with Dustin, & Daria. He lost in Kata & Kumite in repechage.
– 27th-28th April 2013 New Zealand Open Karate Championships won again in Team Kata with Dustin, & Daria silver medal (2nd place) and he lost again his Kumite in repechage.
– May 2013 QKA Karate Championships won bronze medal in Team Kata with Dustin, & Daria 3rd Place.
David made it in the Queensland Karate State Team for Kumite.
– June 2013 JKA Open Tournament at Bray Park he won silver medal (2nd place) in Kata and in Team Kata

– 11-13 October 2013, 7th Commonwealth Karate Championships in Montreal, Canada, David placed 5th in Kumite.

20 October 2013 Queensland Schools Championships Davidwon silver medal (2nd place) in Kata & 3rd Place in Kumite.

 David’s motto:

Sempai Daria Mostofizadeh
Daria started Karate in 2006 when she was 4 years old.Daria.jpg
She trains for four years now under Sensei Andrew and her father Sensei Hamid. 
She was lucky enough to meet Kanaya Sensei and she trained for 2 years under late Shihan Sensei Kanaya.
Daria obtained the rank of Shodan in March 2011under Sensei Inage, Sensei Takimoto & late Shihan Sensei Kanaya. 

Daria has competed in majority of local and state championships from 2006 – 2011and in national and international championships.

She won the Bronze medal in 2011 at the Commonwealth Karate Championships 2011 in Sydney. 
She competed in Sydney international in 2012, Australian Open in 2011and 2012 and QKA State Championships 2012.
Daria won three gold medals for first in kata, first in kumite and first in team kata at the Sunshine Coast Karate Championships 2012.

Daria attained the rank of Nidan in June 2012 under Shihan Yamaguchi Sensei.

Daria has competed in:

– June 2013 JKA Open Tournament at Bray Park Daria won gold medal (1st place) in Kata and silver medal (2nd place) in Kumite and in Team Kata.
Daria made it in the Queensland Karate State Team for Kata & Kumite.
August 2013 The AKF National Championships in Hobart Daria won bronze medal 3rd Place Kata.
11-13 October 2013 7th Commonwealth Karate Championships in Montreal, Canada, Daria won 2 gold medals with 1st place in Kata and 1st in Kumite.
20 October 2013 Queensland Schools Championships Daria won gold medals (1stplace) in Kata.
Daria’s motto:
 “You can do karate as a sport or for self defence and karate can be a lot of fun too”.

Sempai Dustin Mostofizadeh
Dustin started Karate in 2005 when he was 5 yrs old.Dustin

He was lucky enough to meet Kanaya Sensei and he trained for 2 years under late Shihan Sensei Kanaya. Dustin has competed in majority of local and state championships from 2005, and also in national and international championships. He competed at the Commonwealth Karate Championships 2011 in Sydney, in the Sydney internationals in 2012, Australian Open in 2011, 2012 and 2013 and in the QKA State Championships 2012 and 2013.

Dustin attained the rank of Shodan in December 2013 under Shihan Kagawa Sensei.

 Sensei Ermin Karajic
Ermin.jpgErmin started Karate in late 1996/ early 1997 when he was ~ 18 years old under Shihan Sensei Kanaya.
He has competed in state, national and international Championships, Competed Australian Open in 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002
Competed in majority of local and state championships from 1997 – 2003. 
Ermin graded to Shodan rank in 2007 and attained the rank of Nidan in 2009.

Armin.jpgHe started karate when he was 6 years old in 2002 trained under Shihan Sensei Kanaya until 2011. 
Here areArmin’s achievements in competitions:
First competition in 2002 in Toowoomba came 1st place.
Competed in majority of local and state championships from 2002 – 2011.
2003 nationals 3rd place.
2004 went to Japan.
He competed in the Japan Nationals in Matsuyama came 3rd place.
Australian Open 2006 came 2nd place
Australian Open 2007 came 1st place
2008 got 2nd place in Tokyo at same competition
2009 equal 3rd in Tokyo.
2012 QKA State Championships 3rd place in Kata
Armin graded to Shodan rank in 2004 and attained the rank of Nidan in 2006.

Sempai Louii Hornibrook
Louii started Karate in 2006 when he was 5 1/2 years old joinedLouii.jpg Shihan Sensei Kanaya Karate Dojo and trained together with Shihan Sensei Kanaya until his sad loss,
Louii has competed in state, national and international championships and won the silver medal in 2009 at the 10th National championships of JKS in Tokyo,
2012 QKA State Championships 2nd place in Kata
He graded to Shodan rank in March 2011.

Sensei Hans Gerber

–  He starts Karate1986 when he was 18 yrs old, with Kenseikan Konofingen Switzerland under Thomas Hertig sensei.
During the time 1987- 1991 he attendet seminars under  Sensei Yuji Sato, Sensei Mori & sensei Kurasako in Switzerland and also under sensei Masami Tsuruoka and sensei Brad Jones in Toronto Canada.
Hans obtained the rank of Shodan in 1992 and 1994 he attained the rank of Nidan under late Shihan Asai, Kato sensei & Bruno Koller sensei in Switzerland.
He attended between 1990 to 1997 several seminars in Switzerland and Russia with Shihan Toru Yamaguchi, Shihan Asai, Sensei Kato (from UK), Shuseki Shihan Kagawa Sensei, Shihan Takashi Yamaguchi Sensei, Sensei Bruno Koller and others.
In 1997 he relocated from Switzerland to Sydney Australia.
In 2000 he joined JKA Australia until 2010. In those 10 years attending several seminars with Sensei Shunsuke Takahashi, Sensei Nishimura, Sensei Naka.
Further seminars attended in Australia with Kancho Kanazawa, sensei Fumitoshi Kanazawa and sensei Arie Farkash (Kase-Ha Israel) and sensei Richard Heselton.
Since 2009 all seminars attended with JKS Australia under late Shihan Kanaya Sensei, Shihan Yamaguchi Sensei & Shihan Kagawa Sensei.
Hans Joined JKS Australia November 2013.
He attained the rank of Sandan (3rd Dan) in September 2015 under Shihan Yamaguchi Sensei.

                                                                 Sempai Zeynab AlshelhZeynab Alshelh
Zeynab started karate at the age of 11 in 2004, competing in minor tournaments until 2007 when she became a member of the NSW state team, winning bronze in her first national championships for Kata. From then, she has been competing, specializing in Kata, and finally becoming a member of the Australian team in 2012. In that year, she obtained the rank of Nidan (2nd black) belt.
She has competed in various international tournaments, Zeynab ranked 2nd in kata at the 2nd International Top Tighter Cup in Germany.
Zeynab’s club, located in Sydney, is called Spears Sochinkan Karate Academy. It was founded in 2005 and is following the teachings of Shihan Okamoto (JKA).
She have recently felt the need to explore karate further and make it a way of life rather than just a sport, and visiting Japan is the best way to do it.

Zeynab Joined JKS Australia February 2014.

Katrina KhoupongsyKatrina Khoupongsy (336x417) Pixels

Katrina started training in Shotokan Karate in 1998,but due to personal reasons, had to give up in 2002 after reaching 3rd Kyu. Katrina resumed Karate in 2007 under the guidance of Yossi Litvin Sensei at the Honbu dojo of Zanshin Shotokan Karate. Katrina attained her Shodan rank with Zanshin in 2010 and her Nidan rank in 2012.
